In September 2020, we joined Balfour Beatty as graduates, working across Finance, Procurement and Human Resources.
As part of our graduate programme, we were given a project The Social Value Challenge. For this project we were tasked with creating as much social value in the wider community as possible. Through our team’s discussions trying to decide where to focus on creating social value, we realised there was a stigma surrounding Apprenticeships that had been created by schools advocating university over apprenticeships much more strongly. Therefore, we decided our aim for the challenge would be to work towards removing that stigma.
We were quite restricted on what we could do as a result of lockdown measures, therefore, we decided to create videos, interviewing current apprentices across the organisation. We asked them to discuss their personal story and journey and share the amazing opportunities available as part of the apprenticeship schemes, demonstrating that you do not have to go to university to embark on a career at Balfour Beatty!
