Electrical Engineering Advanced Apprentice, Hannah Magowan speaks at the House of Lords

Jason Hunter and Hannah Magowan from Dale Power Solutions were invited to speak at the House of Lords on 25 January about the problems facing young people in Scarborough, an identified coldspot for social mobility in the UK.

Speaking to nearly 60 companies, both UK and multinationals, Jason, who is Head of Sales for Energy Storage, explained how the awarding winning apprenticeship programme at Dale, now in its eleventh year, has enabled the company to nurture local young talent and ensure business sustainability. Hannah who is one of the top three advanced apprentices in the country (Highly Commended at the NAS Awards 2018) spoke about her own journey from school to engineering apprenticeship and talked about the importance of sharing good information to school leavers parents and teachers to enable young people to make more informed decisions about their careers.

Dale Power Solutions is one of 40 national and local Cornerstone Employers working with The Careers & Enterprise Company to help inspire and prepare school and college pupils for the world of work. It was named Large Employer 2018 at the recent National Apprenticeship Awards and Hannah was Highly Commended Advanced Apprentice. In 2017 the business was awarded the Princess Royal Training Award and were also joint winners in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2015.
