Since its inception, The 5% Club has staged best practice events to encourage and inform members with less, little or even no experience of how to run effective formal training programmes.

Members and participants showcase and share their experiences; how they operate their programmes; recruit their apprentices; and reach out to schools and their local communities.

More recently, our quarterly events have been further developed, to build on this good practice sharing but also to focus more fully on broader social issues in our sector such as social mobility, diversity and inclusion and outreach to schools and young people.

All events are free to attend and are open to members, any organisations which have expressed interest in the work of The 5% Club, stakeholders and partners. (Please note – these events are not a ‘selling’ opportunity and are not open to companies attending for commercial purposes only.)

Understanding the Assessment Reforms: What Employers Need to Know

SAVE THE DATE: An online event in conjunction with

Date: Tuesday 13 January 2026

Time: 2.30-4pm

Format: Online

To book: register here

Assessment rules are undergoing significant change, and The 5% Club and Enginuity are coming together to help members understand exactly what these reforms mean for them. This online joint event will give employers clear, practical insight into how the new approach to assessment will affect their organisations—what they need to prepare for, what the transition will involve, and how they can position themselves to benefit from the changes.

Our keynote address will be delivered by Carmel Grant, Deputy Director for Reform and Innovation, who will outline the intent behind the reforms and provide an update on where Skills England are in the process. This is a valuable opportunity for members to hear directly from those leading the reform programme.

Following the keynote, a panel of experts from a range of sectors will explore the implications for employers—covering what the reforms mean in practice, the responsibilities employers will need to take on, and the potential opportunities and challenges ahead. Our panel includes:

  • Ginny Bradwell, Education Director, First Intuition – representing the professional services sector
  • Fiona Aldridge, CEO, Skills Federation – representing 18 sector bodies and the employer voices they bring together.
  • A representative from a large employer and another from an SME, offering real-world perspectives on implementation across different business contexts.

The session will be online and will include:

  • 25 minutes of keynote insight from Skills England
  • 5-minute position statements from each panellist
  • A Q&A opportunity, with questions taken in advance to ensure the most pressing member concerns are addressed

This is an essential event for any employer involved in apprenticeships and skills development.

The 5% Club Armed Forces SIG – Parliamentary Reception, House of Lords

  • The 5% Club Armed Forces Special Interest Group Parliamentary Reception
  • Wednesday 25 February 2026, 12.30-2.30pm
  • The Cholmondeley Room and Terrace, House of Lords, London, SW1A 0PW

Established to support the career transitions and development of the Armed Forces community—including veterans, service leavers, reservists, spouses, and cadets—the The 5% Club Armed Forces Special Interest Group (AFSIG) provides a collaborative platform for member organisations to share best practices, develop resources, and create structured career pathways that help integrate Armed Forces members into the civilian workforce.

The AFSIG September meeting (output here) agreed a focus on four strands of work, namely

  • Cadets
  • Early Service Leavers (ESLs)
  • Reservists
  • Families and Spouses

This first meeting made one thing clear: this is not about promises, but about proof. By February 2026, we invite members to stand before Parliament not with words, but with case studies, pilots, and lived examples of how business can unlock the potential of the armed forces community.

If you wish to become involved in The 5% Club Special Interest Group for the Armed Forces and attend this event please email: helen.tanner@5percentclub.org.uk
